Part of the complete guide: Solar cost (complete guide)
Ask three installers for a price per kW and you may hear ₹48,000, ₹58,000 and ₹68,000. All three can be honest. The number only means something once you know what is inside it.
What moves the price
- Module type: DCR modules with Indian cells cost more than non-DCR, and are required for the PM Surya Ghar subsidy.
- Inverter brand and warranty: a 10-year warranty from a brand with a local service centre costs more than an unbranded unit.
- Structure: hot-dip galvanised or aluminium, with a proper wind rating, versus thin painted steel.
- Scope: does the price include earthing, lightning arrestor, cables, net-metering paperwork, GST and transport?
- Size: per-kW cost falls as the system grows, because fixed costs are shared.
A rough guide
For a home, ₹55,000 to ₹65,000 per kW is common for a complete, DCR system up to 5 kW. Prices far below that usually leave something out. Our 3 kW cost guide shows an itemised breakdown, and the quote checklist shows how to compare.
