Part of the complete guide: Solar for homes (start here)
A 3–5 kW rooftop system can cover a family's usual consumption plus daily EV charging. An electric scooter needs about 1–2 units a day and an EV car about 6–10 units, so add 1 kW of solar for roughly every 4 units of daily EV use. Running costs fall to a fraction of petrol.
How much solar for an EV?
| Vehicle | Daily use (≈30 km) | Extra solar needed |
|---|---|---|
| Electric scooter | ~1–1.5 units | ~0.5 kW |
| Electric car | ~5–7 units | ~1.5–2 kW |
Because net metering credits daytime generation, you can charge at night and still offset the units.
Home charger
A 3.3 kW AC charger with earthing and a dedicated MCB suits most cars. Scooters charge from a standard 15A socket with proper wiring.
Energy Independence Package
