Part of the complete guide: Solar for homes (start here)
Large Kowdiar villas typically need 5–10 kW systems on three-phase connections to offset multiple air-conditioners, pumps and EVs. Expect ₹2.8–5.5 lakh before subsidy, mature-tree shading as the main risk, and payback of 3.5–5 years thanks to higher slab tariffs.
Why villas benefit most
Kowdiar and neighbouring Jawahar Nagar, Vellayambalam and Pattom villas often consume 500–1,200 units a month: several ACs, heat pumps, borewell and lift. At those volumes, the highest slab rates apply, so each solar unit saves more and payback is fast.
Design considerations
- Shading: mature trees are common; use a shade analysis and, where partial shade is unavoidable, module-level optimisers or microinverters.
- Aesthetics: black-frame, all-black modules and flush mounting suit premium properties; keep structures low-profile.
- Roof loads: older RCC roofs and sloped tile roofs need structural checks.
- Three-phase systems for 5 kW and above.
Subsidy
Residential villas qualify for up to ₹78,000 under PM Surya Ghar even for systems larger than 3 kW (the subsidy caps at 3 kW). The remaining capacity is purely a savings investment.
Add-ons for premium homes
