How this calculator works

The calculator uses the standard reducing-balance EMI formula: EMI = P × r × (1+r)^n ÷ ((1+r)^n − 1), where P is the loan, r is the monthly interest rate and n is the number of months. It then compares the EMI with the monthly electricity saving you enter. If saving is higher than the EMI, the system pays for itself from the first month. Concessional rooftop loans are reported around 7% for eligible systems up to 3 kW; other loans follow bank rates.

Solar Loan EMI Calculator: FAQ

What interest rate do solar loans have?

Concessional loans for eligible small residential systems are around 7%; other bank loans follow bank rates.

Should I take a loan or pay cash?

If savings cover the EMI, a loan preserves cash. If you have idle cash earning less than the loan rate, paying cash saves interest.

Can I prepay a solar loan?

Most banks allow part-prepayment; check foreclosure charges.
